So it’s another day in this January window and there’s another set of transfer stories doing the round, one of which is linking Everton with an attacking midfielder.

This story from the Mirror claims that Everton are looking at Algerian international Yacine Brahimi, who is currently at Porto in Portugal.

The paper says that Everton sent scouts to watch him playing in a recent match against Nacional, where he scored a brace.

Apparently Brahimi is out of contract at the end of the season and so Proto might be tempted to sell him to another club for a so-called reasonable fee to avoid losing him on a free in the summer.

Brahimi is a player who actually ticks several of the boxes in terms of what I think the Toffees need from a midfield recruit.

He’s an attacking midfielder or forward who has tended to play mainly in a wide left position although he can also play centrally. He likes to take on defenders, creates chances and has a decent goal scoring record.

So if Brahimi were available for a ‘reasonable’ fee, (although what exactly that is these days I’m not totally sure!), lets say around £20-25 million then it might represent a worthwhile punt for Everton to take. Players like this are never a certainty, but then to be honest who is?

Given how difficult it is to find and secure a centre forward who can get you 25+ goals in a season, the Blues might be better off trying to improve the goal scoring potential of their midfield in support of the forwards they have.

In other news today Southampton have been linked with making a move to try to prise Ademola Lookman away from Goodison Park.

Lookman has played in fits and starts this season and hasn’t ever quite looked like he is ready for a regular starting position in the team.

However he is a player that Marco Silva fought hard to keep at Everton in the summer when there was plenty of interest in signing him from RB Leipzig where he had been on loan.

Although the Saints are now managed by the former Leipzig coach, Ralph Hassenhuttl, it would be very surprising if the Toffees let him move away now.

And finally Spanish paper Marca are supposedly again claiming that Barcelona are prepared to listen to offers for Malcom.

As many of you will no doubt recall, Malcom is a player recently rumoured to be of interest to the Blues as a potential addition to the team’s attack.
