One of the most interesting things to come out of the recent Everton AGM was owner Farhad Moshiri’s warning to manager Marco Silva that results must improve.
This is significant because Moshiri is the ultimate boss at Everton and Silva was his choice to take over the reigns after Sam Allardyce was sacked.
So it’s an important statement that he is not happy with how results have gone, especially recently.
In addition chief executive Denise Barratt-Baxendale outlined the club’s ambition to win the Premier LEague within ten years and Marcel Brands was promoted to a seat on the board, to oversee all of the Toffees football work, also seems significant.
It strikes me that is creating a degree of distance between Brands and Silva in terms of the power structure at Everton.
Brands is now fully integrated into the hierarchy at the club, which sort of makes him rather more than an ordinary employee. Of course I may be reading more into this than is justified.
But I always felt, although I could be wrong, that Silva might not have been Brands’ first-choice as manager. Silva was obviously the man Moshiri himself wanted all along but did the Dutchman agree?
However all this is speculation. I don’t think that it’s likely Silva will be losing his job anytime soon. Moshiri does give his continued backing to him in the article, (although that isn’t always good news for a coach!).
The summer seems the correct time when a proper assessment of Silva’s time can be made. But at the moment it’s not looking too good for him.
Everton are currently sitting 11th in the Premier League after a dreadful run of four defeats in their last five league matches. But it’s not just the defeats themselves but the manner of them of that should worry Blues supporters.

The Toffees form has slumped badly. The goals they were scoring earlier in the season have dried up and costly individual defensive errors are creeping back into the team’s play.
In fact a year ago Everton were in ninth position with exactly the same number of points, 27. So effectively the team has made no discernible progress in twelve months. There has been some improvement in the side’s performances, especially when the Toffees were on a run of five wins in seven games back in October and November.
And given what Moshiri is saying, unless the Blues form does improve significantly then Silva might be under real pressure from the owner come the end of the season.
