These players are on loan while Everton waits for their contracts to expire, or potentially to try and attract bids to get them off the payroll. While there is some talent here, it’s likely these players won’t be playing in an Everton shirt again.

Nikola Vlasic (CSKA Moscow)

Vlasic is likely Everton’s best player out on loan right now. He has been a successful player at CSKA, scoring four goals and earning two assists in thirteen appearances in the Russian Premier League. Even more impressive is his record in the Champion’s League where he scored three goals and got two assists in their group stage run, one of his goals came in CSKA’s first win over Real Madrid. Despite two wins against Madrid, CSKA struggled in their matches against Roma and Viktoria Plzen which resulted in them finishing last due to goal difference.

Despite his success abroad, Vlasic doesn’t see a future for himself at Everton. He was quoted as saying “I expect them to sell me as soon as they get their first bid”. It is true that even in his current form, Vlasic would find it hard to start at Everton over Gylfi Sigurðsson who is one of the Blue’s best players at the moment.

He is an attacking minded midfielder so he likely would struggle to drop deeper and play in Everton’s current formation. Even though he is a clear talent, it may be best for him to move on from Everton for the sake of his career.

Sandro Ramirez (Real Sociedad)

Despite being only 23, it looks like the Spaniard’s time at Everton is over. Despite Everton’s desperate need for a striker, Marco Silva has said that he hadn’t even considered recalling Sandro. He has struggled immensely at Sociedad, only making nine appearances and even worse, only three of those games he started. He has also yet to score a goal for the La Liga side.

Unfortunately, the £5.2 million that Everton paid for Sandro was a bad piece of business. The club won’t make any money back on him if his form doesn’t drastically improve in order to draw a bid. If he isn’t sold, he’ll almost definitely continue to be loaned out until his contract expires in 2021.

Ashley Williams (Stoke City)

Ashley Williams is a great player but the sad reality is that he’s now 34 years-old. He was brought into an Everton side which had been declining defensively and he plugged that hole. However, now Everton has a good crop of young, talented defenders and Williams is no longer needed.

He’s played well for Stoke despite their poor position in the table, he’s been almost ever-present for the Baggies in the Championship which shows that they value him.  He’s as reliable as he’s always been for Stoke and who knows, his Everton contract expires at the end of the year which may prompt Stoke to try and make the move more permanent.

Shani Tarashaj (Grasshoppers)

Shani Tarashaj arrived from Swiss side Grasshoppers in 2016 and he’s gone back there on a season-long loan with an option to buy this season. He’s only made three substitute appearances for Grasshoppers so far so them deciding to buy him is up in the air currently.

Either way, including a buy option in a loan deal is never a good sign for the player’s chances of returning to the side. If Grasshoppers don’t buy him then Tarashaj will be loaned elsewhere, he isn’t good enough for Everton as it stands and it will likely remain this way.

Kevin Mirallas (Fiorentina)

Kevin Mirallas is on loan at Serie A side Fiorentina with an option to buy. The fact that Everton tried to sell the Belgian to Olympiacos means that his highly successful Everton career is now probably at an end. He’s been a very average player in Italy, scoring two goals in thirteen appearances which seems to be his typical level of output these days.

Kevin’s put in a great shift for Everton during his time there but Silva has made it clear that he’s not in his plans for the foreseeable future. His contract lasts until 2020 so unless he’s sold on, he will remain an Everton player for the next year.

Everton has an interesting crop of players on loan, I am personally excited to see some of our young players grow and also saddened to see some of our other players go.
