I am struggling to know what to say fellow Evertonians I really am. I’ve almost run out of words to describe how frankly rubbish Everton are as they turn in yet another disappointing effort and lose in injury time to Millwall so going out of the FA Cup.
Just yesterday I wrote that Everton desperately needed a good run in the FA Cup to ensure the club might be able to take something from this season.
Could the team manage that, no. Another game, another wretchedly underwhelming performance, three goals conceded and the Blues are out of another cup competition at virtually the earliest stage.
I’m really so fed up with all this and I feel that it really is time to look very hard at whether Marco Silva can or should survive.
Yes simply getting rid of a manager isn’t necessarily going to solve the problems but I don’t know what else can be done in the short-term to try to change the dire results that are sinking our season fast.
Some of the players seem to be listless and disinterested or perhaps they are disillusioned with the current regime, I’m not sure.
Everton supporters seeking hope might point to the slightly dodgy second goal that Millwall scored. But in truth although the Blues dominated possession they hardly peppered the Lions goal with efforts.
In general Millwall were pretty comfortable and although Everton went ahead through a mistake by the home team’s keeper, they never looked likely to steamroll Millwall.
And each time the Toffees went ahead the Lions responded. As I pointed out in my match preview, Millwall are especially strong at set-pieces and so it proved as they scored all their goals from just such opportunities, including the injury-time winner.

Everton’s chronic inability to deal with such set-piece situations has been a theme throughout the season. There doesn’t seem to be any progress in this aspect of the team’s defending no matter how many times its hurts the team.
So where on earth do the Blues go from here?
I don’t know to be honest but I feel as though the Toffees are actually going backwards and seem as far away from contending for anything as I can remember in recent times.
So on to next weekend and a return to Premier League action against Huddersfield. Playing like this can Everton manage to win this game?
