Wow what a win! This was a truly brilliant effort from Everton as they destroyed Manchester United 4-0 at Goodison Park this afternoon to go seventh.
This performance was I think without doubt the best by Everton this season and possibly the best they’ve produced for several seasons.
United came into the game with plenty still to play for despite their exit to Barcelona in the Champions League. They were hanging onto the edge of the Premier League top six with no guarantee of CL football next season.
But Everton were utterly dominant pretty much from start to finish. They didn’t let United get any foothold in the match and pressed their opponents into multiple errors.
And the Blues also created and converted chances regularly starting with Richarlison’s opener a quarter of an hour into the game.
This is critical for the Toffees if they are to build on these very positive and hopeful signals, which we have seen in these run of home games.
The Blues scored four goals from eight shots on target, an excellent ratio. There could have been more goals as well. The ability to convert chances at this kind of rate is key to becoming a more consistently successful side.
This was another example of how the Blues seem to be able to up their game when facing one of the so-called elite sides. Again Everton produced an effort that would have beaten most teams in the league any day of the week.

For all the positive feelings that this superb win will give Evertonians, we have to return to why do the Blues manage such terrific performances and then totally fail to turn up such as last weekend at Fulham?
Somehow the Toffees have to find a way to iron out these strange dips in form that so often happen, especially away from home to teams lower down the league.
If they can do that and are able to regularly produce performances such as today’s, then the Blues really can climb the table and challenge the established Premier League elite.
