The early transfer rumours are gathering momentum with Everton being linked with several players already and other stories bubbling up too.

One of these stories has Everton looking at a South American midfielder Santiago Sosa. The player is currently playing his trade with River Plate in Argentina and according to the story could be available for a relatively moderate fee.

The article claims he might be a possible replacement for Andre Gomes if the Portuguese midfield maestro doesn’t make his loan move permanent or moves to another club or returns to Barcelona.

Blues Director of Football Marcel Brands also has a well-established track record of finding South American talent and bringing these players to Europe. So this rumour might well have some foundation.

In another rumour doing the rounds, a Nigerian website is claiming that Henry Onyekuru is willing to extend his current loan spell at Turkish club Galatasaray.

The long drawn out saga surrounding Onyekuru’s situation has been a slightly farcical and frustrating one.

To briefly re-cap, Everton signed the Nigerian forward back in the summer of 2017 and then sent him straight out on loan to Belgian club Anderlecht.

After a reasonable campaign in Belgium, Onyekuru was then unable to join the Blues at the end of that season because of complications surrounding his work permit due apparently to a lack of international appearances for Nigeria.

Anyway he then joined Galatasaray last season. He’s had a decent time in Turkey and now it seems that they want to keep him and the Nigerian website claim that the Toffees might be inclined to agree to that outcome.

I’m not sure this is a good idea. If there are no further visa complications I would like to see Onyekuru come to Merseyside this summer.

After all he is an Everton player and it would be nice to see what he has to offer sometime soon!

In addition one of the main areas of the team that needs addressing is the options up front.

More from Prince Rupert's Tower

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been outstanding over the past few weeks and seems to have, for the moment anyway, got the starting job operating as the Blues first-choice centre-forward.

However Calvert-Lewin’s one issue is that as yet he still struggles to score enough goals. It seems likely that Cenk Tosun will be leaving Everton this summer as will Sandro and Omar Niasse if the Toffees can offload them.

So given that, at the very least the Blues will need more competition and further options up front. Onyekuru seems to be a genuinely productive forward who both scores and creates goals.
