With the summer transfer window rumours starting to gather momentum, it’s being claimed Everton are in pole position to sign the Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck.

The Evening Standard, a London paper, are saying that England forward Welbeck whose contract expires this summer, is going to leave the Gunners and favours joining Everton.

Several other Premier League clubs are also apparently interested in signing the Arsenal man, but the paper reckons the Blues are in the driving seat for his signature when he leaves the Emirates Stadium.

They are claiming too that Everton will even consider raising his wages as he will come on a free transfer, to secure him

Welbeck though is just coming back from a serious injury that has kept him out of the Arsenal team since November. The former Manchester United player has had a career beset with such injuries problems.

He is a player who also probably divides opinion amongst fans. Welbeck is a talented striker who has perhaps always flattered to deceive to some extent.

He has pace and power and is a good player in the air. Also he is certainly a hard-working forward who puts in plenty of yards and runs the channels well.

But he’s not scored enough goals overall although he’s been in and out of the Gunners team. Strangely he has a better goal-scoring ratio when playing for England than Arsenal.

All in all he is actually a bit like an older, more experienced version of Dominic Calvert-Lewin. And so in that sense he might be a decent shout to sign as his strengths would fit in with the way the Toffees have been playing.

Perhaps he can also help bring on Calvert-Lewin and make him a better player for the long-term. But on the down-side his injury problems are a concern as is his age.

In further Blues transfer news today the BBC are claiming the Blues are about to sign former Huddersfield goalkeeper Jonas Lossl.

It’s presumably likely that he will be Jordan Pickford’s understudy next season. Hopefully he might push the England keeper a bit harder next term as I think he went backwards a little last season.
