News that another talented young player has signed his first professional contract at Everton, reinforces the on-going excellence in the Blues youth system.

Ellis Simms is an 18-year-old striker who has just put pen to paper on his first professional contract at Everton.

The youngster has just come off a superb season with the Under-18’s where he scored a stunning 46 goals for the team. He is now hoping to contribute to sustaining the success of the Under-23’s who won the double last season.

This kind of news is very good to hear as building on the excellence of the youth system is critical to Everton’s future success.

Given the ever escalating cost of signing players in the transfer market, developing and bringing through young talent will be important.

Let’s hope that Simms can make the same kind of impact and progress to the first team that Dominic Calvert-Lewin did. This might also help give the Blues even more choices up front.

In other news focussing on young players, there are also reports that Blackburn Rovers might be ready to make a move for another youth system product Bassala Sambou who starred for the Blues Under-23’s.

Sambou has previously played for Blackburn boss Tony Mobray and he might end up joining Rovers as his contract is up this summer.

And there is once more another twist in the Henry Onyekuru saga as reports in the Turkish media are claiming he wants to stay at Galatasaray because of the chance of playing Champions League football.

This sounds a little strange to me. Galatasaray are very unlikely to make much impression in next season’s Champions League and Onyekuru has been quoted saying he wants to play in the Premier League..?

Anyway perhaps this is the case and he does want to stay in Turkey. If so that will mean that having paid £10 million for the player Blues fans won’t ever get to see whether he could have contributed anything to Everton’s team.
