There are more indications that Santiago Sosa, the Argentine midfielder is closer to moving to Everton. So have the Blues signed a long-term successor to Idrissa Gueye?
We’ve tracked this story for the past few weeks and there are more suggestions that the 20-year-old River Plate player is very much on the radar of the Everton hierarchy.
Sosa is a primarily defensive player but one who also offers quality on the ball as well. So are the Toffees about to sign the player who will be succeeding Idrissa Gueye in the year or two?
Gueye’s future at Goodison Park is very much open to question following his stated desire to leave the Blues in January when PSG put in a bid for him.
The Senegal star is also 29 and given his all-action style and interest in seeking fresh pastures, it would seem sensible for Everton to look at a possible replacement soon.
Sosa is currently playing for Argentina in the Under-20 World Cup and so any deal would presumably be done after that tournament.
But given his youth and lack of first-team experience it is likely he will go out on loan again, possibly back to River Plate for another season. This is also because of potential work-permit issues too.

After the seemingly endless saga over Henry Onyekuru’s work permit, the Blues need to ensure something similar doesn’t happen with Sosa.
In other transfer news bubbling up the Toffees are also being linked with two forwards in France’s Ligue 1; Bernard Traore and Memphis Depay. Neither story looks very likely to lead to anything substantial.
In addition it seems that Jon-jo Kenney will be moving to Schalke in Germany on loan next season. This move if it happens, seems to make sense for Kenny.
He’s not likely to get a lot of playing time at Everton next season, especially if the Blues do sign another right-back.
