During a quiet few weeks for Everton and transfer rumours, the Blues are again being associated with a possible move for the Brazilian striker David Neres.

We’ve mentioned these links to Neres before. Everton are certainly it seems looking at a number of potential forward reinforcements as the club searches to strengthen in that position and the young Brazilian is apparently one of the possible options.

According to the Spanish website making the link, if they did move for him the Blues would face stiff competition from French giants PSG.

If PSG do move for Neres they would surely have the whip hand financially and are able to offer Champions League football too. So that might be a clincher for the Ajax player.

Neres has some obvious strengths but also he seems to be lacking in certain qualities that do appear important to Everton’s style of play.

In particular he’s not great in the air and so isn’t necessarily the ideal kind of centre-forward that would most obviously suit the Blues approach. Of course that might not be so important especially if the team can adjust and he is able to score 15-20 goals.

In other transfer news regarding players the Toffees have been looking at, the Echo are reporting that Santiago Sosa, a midfielder Everton have supposedly run the rule over, might be able to get a work permit much more quickly and easily than at first expected.

This is quite important because one of the biggest problems with signing overseas players, especially young footballers who have not yet played for their senior national team, is the difficulty of securing work permits.

Everton have of course had this problem with Henry Onyekuru, something we’ve discussed many times in the past.

The paper is claiming that because Sosa has some European lineage he might be able to get around the increasingly difficult work permit regulations, although Brexit if it happens, might further complicate things!

The Echo also claim that Sosa would be an ideal signing for the Blues. He is supposedly a deep-lying midfield ball-winner who is an excellent passer too. Apparently Sosa also has better defensive stats than Idrissa Gueye, which would make him quite an effective replacement if Gueye leaves.

He’s a young player who’s obviously still learning and developing his game but seems like he might be worth a punt if the asking price is around £15 million.
