After quite a long and drawn out process it seems that Everton are finally getting close to sealing a permanent transfer deal for midfielder Andre Gomes.

The Daily Mail are claiming that Everton and Barcelona are close to agreeing a fee and that Gomes will then sign on the dotted line for the Blues.

So it looks as though the Portuguese midfield star might be close to making his loan move permanent.

The fee being quoted is around £22 million. This is considerably less than some original quotes of £30-35 million that Barcelona were supposedly asking for Gomes towards the end of last season.

It will be good if the club can finally get this deal over the line.  Although Gomes didn’t exactly set the Premier League on fire last term, his skill, technique and composure certainly shone through in an often inconsistent and struggling Blues team.

And his strong partnership with Idrissa Gueye in midfield was one of the most positive things to come out of last season.

I think its safe to say most Toffees fans will be glad to see him sign. And if the fee is around £20 million or so that is a very good deal financially.

Gomes offers something Everton have lacked for a long time. A midfielder with the ability to enable the Blues to change the pace and tempo of their play and maintain possession much more effectively.

Hopefully if he does join permanently he can provide more assists and goals from the middle of the park next season, something that the Toffees certainly need more of.

In another slightly strange story in the Mail, the paper is claiming the Blues are also interested in signing yet another Barcelona player this summer, goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen.

This sounds a little unlikely though given that Everton have added Jonas Lossl to the squad and already have two other reserve keepers on their books along with England number 1 Jordan Pickford.

Given all that this seems a transfer that is very unlikely to happen.
