As new Everton signing Fabian Delph begins to settle in with his teammates, there are further rumours doing the rounds that Idrissa Gueye wants to leave Goodison Park.

This is one that has been rumbling on for quite a while ever since French giants PSG made a move for him in January, which Everton refused to countenance and rejected.

In the modern parlance it seems he had his head turned and supposedly handed in a transfer request at this time as well.

Despite that deal falling through, the Senegal midfield player knuckled down and still played well for Everton for the remainder of last season contributing to the Blues finishing 8th.

Now according to stories in the Daily Telegraph, Gueye wants to revive the move to Paris and get his chance to play champions league football with the French giants.

This is not too surprising given that the temptation of a move to a club playing in Europe’s premier competition would be very attractive to most players.

And of course at his age he probably won’t get another opportunity if this one slips past him.

However from the Blues point of view this would be a difficult situation to resolve. For the right price though it would probably make sense for both parties to come to an arrangement if he’s determined to go.

But if Gana leaves then Everton will have to find a way to replace him and that won’t be easy.

There are no obvious replacements for him within the squad as James McCarthy, who could perhaps do a similar job, might also be going and Morgan Schnierderlin is more of a sitting holding type of defensive midfielder.

And Delph is not a replacement for him either. He’s actually a different type of midfield player.

Gana is primarily a ball-winner and an athletic, hard-working but offensively a limited player.

Delph is a more rounded midfielder who offers greater attacking threat than the Sengalese man but who isn’t as focussed on the tackling and bread and butter ball-winning side of the game as Gana.

The two would probably form an excellent and complimentary partnership if they were to play together in Everton’s centre.

But it looks as though Gana may well have set his heart on a move to PSG and so perhaps at this stage the best strategy for the Blues is to make sure they get the very best financial compensation for the player.
