There are further reports that Everton are very close to completing the signing of Ivory Coast defensive midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin from Mainz.

Our familiar news outlet Sky Sports are claiming that Everton, after having an initial bid turned down, are close to securing a deal for the 23-year-old.

Gbamin is a player recently linked with the Blues and he is being cited as a direct replacement for the now departed Idrissa Gueye.

He is thought to be on Merseyside completing his medical and then once personal terms are thrashed out, will be ready to be unveiled as the Blues latest addition.

Everton have moved quickly to replace Gueye once his much-anticipated move for PSG was confirmed.

Gbamin is a tall, powerful defensive player who as we have said before can play in midfield and also operate as a centre-half if needed.

Whether he will play in the middle alongside Andre Gomes or both the Portuguese and the Toffees other new midfielder, Fabian Delph, is unclear.

However Everton line up on the 9th August, lets hope the new man can get to grips quickly with the unique challenge of the Premier League.

In other transfer news, we are still waiting for final confirmation that a deal has been done for the Juventus forward Moise Kean.

The latest information indicates that Kean should be making his way to Goodison Park tomorrow for a medical. So hopefully that will be as smooth a process as the Gbamin deal seems to have been.

More from Prince Rupert's Tower

That would make it two more in. But with just a week to go before summer window closes and we come to the end of another of these ridiculously over-hyped and artificial transfer sagas, Everton still need more players.

Manager Marco Silva wants further reinforcements in defence with another centre-back and right-back on the menu, plus he also presumably still wants that elusive right-sided attacker.

In related news it looks as though Barcelona forward Malcom, who the Toffees have been repeatedly linked with, has chosen to go to Russia for his next move. This is a bit of a blow as he would have been perfect in that wide forward role.

Breaking News!

It’s just been announced that Jean-Philipe Gbamin has signed a five-year deal and becomes a Blues player.
