After a hectic few days of transfer talk and new Everton signings in midfield and up front, attention is turning to other areas of the team that need strengthening.

As well as at centre-back where there are still hopes that Everton might yet still get Kurt Zouma or another centre-half, the other defensive position in need of attention, is right-back.

Although I’ve previously said I think that’s the one position where the Blues could go into the season without a new signing, if Everton can find the right player, then why not.

Who might that player be?

There are few available options in the Premier League and they are likely to be very expensive too, so the Toffees will probably have to look abroad.

One possible option is a player in France; Yousef Atal. The Algerian defender plays for Nice and has come off an outstanding season in Ligue 1.

Atal is a very strong all-round full-back or midfielder who not only defends solidly but would also contribute a lot going forward. He’s young at only 23-years-old, which fits with the Blues recruitment policy too.

The Algerian would probably not be too expensive either so he might well be a good option to go for.

Another full-back, this time playing in the Italian league and also worth considering, is Kevin Malcuit. The Frenchman is at Napoli and that would make a move more difficult as Everton can’t offer Champions League football.

Malcuit is though one of several right-sided players on Napoli’s books and doesn’t appear to have played that many games, which might mean he could be tempted by the chance to play more regularly in England.

He is an excellent defender with all the attacking qualities needed of the modern full-back and like .

Finally another African player who could be worth the Blues running the rule over is Moroccan defender Achraf Hakimi, currently plying his trade in Germany with Borussia Dortmund.

Hakimi is a good attacking player and again he’s also versatile and is able to play on both flanks. He only made 19 appearances for Dortmund and again this might mean he would be tempted by the chance to play more often.
