It’s been a very quiet time over the last week for anything Everton related since the Premier League went into its first international break of the season last weekend.

But several Everton players did start for England in their first match of this international series as the Three Lions beat Bulgaria 4-0 yesterday.

Jordan Pickford and Michael Keane were both in Gareth Southgate’s starting eleven at Wembley for the Euro 2020 qualifier.

Pickford in particular underlined his worth and the excellent form he has shown for the Blues, making several important saves during the game.

Those saves were crucial in keeping Bulgaria’s lively forwards out after halftime before England eventually added further goals in the second half.

Keane’s display was not quite as assured and he had a few wobbly moments of the kind that have occasionally been in evidence for Everton again this season, and something that might worry Toffees fans going forward.

Other Blues players who were in action this past week included left-back Lucas Digne who came on late in France’s 4-1 win over Albania.

The Blues South American contingent didn’t seem to have taken part in the recent friendly between Brazil and Colombia, which finished 2-2.

In other Everton-related news, former Blues defender Joseph Yobo has said he thinks that Alex Iwobi will be a big hit at Goodison Park.

In an interview in his native Nigeria reproduced on the BBC, Yobo claims that Iwobi’s move from Arsenal will give him the chance to develop further and perhaps become a really top player.

Iwobi has made a great start to his Toffees career with two goals in his first three games, both headers. He already seems to be fitting in well and quickly settling into the Blues team.

Leaving his comfort zone at Arsenal might just be the best thing for a player like Iwobi. It could help to force him to work harder to fulfil his full potential than playing within himself at a club like Arsenal.
