As the international weekend continues, Everton are being linked once more with another move for a striker this time the Portuguese forward Goncalo Paciencia who is currently playing in Germany.

The story in the publication Goal claims that Everton boss Marco Silva has asked the board for fresh funds to go and get Eintracht Frankfurt striker Paciencia in January.

If true, (a big if of course), then it means that Moise Kean will almost certainly be on his way out of Goodison Park only six months after he arrived to much fanfare and a fee of nearly £30 million.

This wouldn’t be a surprise, as it seems pretty clear that for whatever reason Silva doesn’t want to play him and he has appeared to struggle with settling into English football.

Kean may go out on loan, possibly back to Italy again as his father wants, and this might help him regain his confidence and goal scoring touch so his Everton career might not be ended.

But the fact that Silva apparently wants to go out and sign yet another striker doesn’t bode well for Kean’s prospects of getting a place in the Blues team any time soon.

I have argued before that I don’t think Kean has had much of a chance to find his feet properly in the Premier League, as Silva hasn’t played him regularly, but maybe there are other problems behind the scenes. He was recently dropped from the match day squad for a time-keeping issue.

Meanwhile the other forwards have also failed to score regularly with Richarlison, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Cenk Tosun all having been tried again up front as Silva continues to search vainly for the right formula.

The Toffees chronic problems scoring goals over the past few years, have been well documented and are a constant source of irritation as the Blues season once again flounders.

So the manager is again supposedly looking to go into the transfer market for a solution to this seemingly never-ending issue.

Paciencia has netted nine times so far this season, which is four more than Everton’s two leading scorers; Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin. The 25-year-old has also earned a recall to the Portugal squad as a result of his good form.

He is according to Goal, comfortable playing in a three-man attack as he does now for Eintracht Frankfurt. This is a think important because I feel that’s the Blues best option up front as part of the much-debated 4-3-3 that Silva has begun to adopt recently.

We’ll see if this rumour has any substance to it but it does look increasingly likely that Everton will be active in the transfer market in January.
