As Everton fans wait and wait and wait for news on the future of manager Marco Silva and his possible replacement, more rumours are circulating about who might take over from him.

One more unusual story concerns a possible replacement from the Brazilian game; Flamengo boss Jorge Jesus. The Daily Telegraph are reporting that Everton might look to the 65-year-old, another Portuguese, to take the reins at Goodison Park following his success winning this year’s Copa Libertadores, South America’s equivalent to the Champions League.

Hmm, not sure about this one. But maybe we do need Jesus to save us now, we really seem in that much of a mess!

There might too, be a certain kind of logic to this, in the sense that the Blues have several key South American players; Brazilians Bernard and Richarlison and Colombian Yerry Mina. So there could be an advantage in language and football culture, plus no one can say he’s not a winner.

More worryingly though, the Telegraph also claim that the board are still very reluctant to make a change in manager at all, and are very much inclined to give Silva even more time than next weekend’s game at Leicester City. That’s very concerning to hear.

If they do ever finally get their act together, are there any other possible candidates, apart from the bookmakers favourites, who could perhaps be persuaded to try to turn around this fast sinking oil tanker of a club?

I’m going to look at a few names out there who might only be on the fringes of the club’s radar. One man might be the former Valencia boss, known as Marcelino.

More from Prince Rupert's Tower

He led Valencia to the Champions League places and a Copa del Rey win last season, after just two years in the job and has a solid reputation in continental football. Plus he’s available now after being recently fired from Valencia.

Another younger coach who I think has a big future, is one I’ve previously mentioned, that’s Julian Nagelsmann who is currently working in the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig.

His team is sitting second in the German league and have proved surprise contenders in this Bundesliga season. It’s true he’s not won anything yet, but he has done a superb job at Leipzig and will surely be snapped up by a major European club soon.

Given all that, he’d be very unlikely to consider moving to Everton now. However if the Toffees had an interim manager until the end of the season to stabilise the situation, like David Moyes, he might just be tempted to come in the summer if the Blues put enough money on the table.
