It looks like Brazil forward Richarlison is ready to sign a contract extension at Everton, which would keep him at the club until 2024.
If true, this is at least some good news for Everton after yet another very difficult and trying week in the clubs recent history.
Richarlison hasn’t set the world on fire this season, then again no Blues player has, however the young Brazil international certainly has plenty of talent and I think he can still become a top quality player with the right coaching and tactics.
I don’t feel that Richarlison has been used properly much of the time. He isn’t a winger and shouldn’t be played in an orthodox position out wide. Rather he is at his best when he can play more like an old-fashioned inside forward, where he can make runs into the penalty area using the pace and power he possesses and then finish.
That also means he needs to be playing in a 4-3-3 type system where he can tuck inside and attack the channels.
The prospect of him signing an extension now, is a slightly unexpected one given that Marco Silva, who is looking likely to get sacked soon, has been important to the Brazilian forward and seemed to be a key reason why Richarlison followed his former coach from Watford to Everton.
However, despite that it seems that he is still prepared to commit his immediate future to the Toffees even with so much speculation about an imminent Silva exit.

That speculation has gone quiet over the last 24 hours, with Arsenal’s decision to sack their manager Unai Emery taking up most of the media’s columns.
In contrast to the Gunners, Everton don’t seem to be any nearer making a final decision on Silva’s future and Blues fans are still in the dark as to whether and when the club will make a move. Until we hear otherwise we have to assume that Silva will probably still be in post when the Merseyside derby takes place on Wednesday!
Evertonians have to hope against hope that there are some significant moves being made behind the scenes and that there are changes afoot, as the current lack of clarity is immensely frustrating.
Well on a more positive note, maybe Richarlison can celebrate his imminent new contract extension with a goal tomorrow at Leicester City.
