What was that? A disgrace that’s what it was. Everton folded like a piece of paper and conceded five, yes five, goals at Anfield to lose the Merseyside derby to Liverpool.

The last time I think Everton let in five against those kopites was back in 1982, when one of their greatest ever teams with Hansen, Souness, Dalgleish and Rush were at their peak, it’s that bad!

I am utterly sick to the back teeth of how wretched the results have been this season. I’ve had enough of this I really have, seeing the Blues lurch from one awful defeat to another, week, after week, after week.

But while nothing hurts more than to lose like that to them lot, there is a sense of numbness about it all these days.

First before I try to review that game of football, let me say to the board once more in block capitals so there’s no confusion: WHAT IS IT GOING TO TAKE FOR MARCO SILVA TO BE SACKED??!!

I’ve said it before it’s criminal for the hierarchy to allow things to get to this state. I sometimes wonder whether there isn’t some sort of power struggle going on behind the scenes between Marcel Brands and Farhad Moshiri/Bill Kenwright to decide what happens next. Perhaps that’s why Silva is still there..?

So first we hear rumours of people like David Moyes or Eddie Howe are going to replace him, clearly favoured by the likes of Kenwright, and then more unexpected characters such as Jorge Jesus, who would be the type Brands might want.

To be honest though I think the Toffees might do better taking on Chelsea this weekend with no manager at all in the dugout than with Silva there yet again!

Yes I know it’s not just about the manager. There was hardly a modicum of pride in that performance from players, most of whom seem to have absolutely no regard for what wearing the Royal Blue jersey should mean. Then who am I kidding in this era of professional mercenaries?

But, in the end, the buck stops with Silva. Once again this isn’t just one of those nights where no one turned up and it all went to shit, It’s been like this forever it seems.

The manager picked the same side that started at Leicester City, just as I suspected. But it didn’t work this time because they weren’t playing deep enough, which is the only way playing three at the back does work. The space and lack of understanding was palpable and naive in the extreme.

Once more too, the defending from set-pieces was woeful and led to preventable goals, and Micheal Keane in particular was diabolical.

More from Prince Rupert's Tower

Jordan Pickford also had one of his periodically awful games in goal too. Why does he always seem to pick derby days at Anfield to have these mares?

On we go. The midfield was poor, Tom Davies looked tired and way off the pace, Gylfi Sigurdsson was utterly anonymous as usual and there was a serious lack of urgency and energy all round.

Up front Everton actually looked half decent at times and whenever the Blues got on the front foot they caused Liverpool some problems.

And that’s the worst part of this, the Toffees had almost the same number of attempts and shots on target. How can we score two goals at Anfield and not get something from the match?

Where to go from here? I honestly do not know and I’m not even sure there is a another manager out there who would now contemplate taking on this wretched team at the moment. If the Blues carry on like this we are certain to be relegated come May.
