Duncan Ferguson takes charge of Everton tomorrow for his first game in temporary charge following Marco Silva’s sacking this week. Will the Blues get a bounce from Big Dunc?

For the first time in a long time I’m not dreading an upcoming Everton Premier League game! That’s not to say Ferguson is going to win his first match tomorrow lunchtime, but I feel, and I suspect I’m not the only Evertonian who does, that a weight has been lifted from my shoulders with Silva now gone.

The situation had become toxic as long as the board had continued to indulge Silva while the Blues fans grew increasingly frustrated and angry as the team drifted from one dreadful result to another with no end in sight. At least that agonising and drawn out period is over.

We have no idea how long Ferguson might be in post. Chelsea at Goodison Park is a difficult baptism of fire for the talismanic Scot as they are having a good season and seem rejuvenated under Frank Lampard this season.

The ex-Chelsea and England star has given his talented youngsters their head, (of course with their now rescinded transfer ban he had little choice), and players like Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham have excelled this season.

Sitting ten points above Everton, the London club are still very much a work in progress under Lampard and although things are going well at the moment there is no guarantee they will be able to sustain this form until the end of the season.

As for the home side, it will be very interesting to see what team Ferguson picks, and how he sets out his first Blues team.

His main issue is probably going to be who to pick in the middle of the park. The Toffees midfield has been ravaged by injury this season.

The long-term absence of Jean-Philippe Gbamin and Andre Gomes is especially frustrating. Evertonians have no idea whether Gbamin could or will make a significant difference to the team’s performances. Gomes is of course a superb talent and perhaps the Blues best player.

Additionally, Everton signed Fabian Delph in the summer and he has been constantly beset by injury too. He’s also unavailable tomorrow too.

Well I won’t be making a prediction, but obviously I want Ferguson gets off to a wining start, (although I’d take a point to be honest), as he seeks to guide the Blues through a difficult time towards what we fervently hope is a better future.
