As we continue to wait for firm news about who is taking over as permanent Everton manager, there are further rumours that Moise Kean might leave the Blues in the January transfer window.

I’ve said several times before that they way former Everton manager Marco Silva handled Kean, was one of the many problems during his tenure in charge.

Kean came to Goodison Park with plenty of fanfare about his talent and potential and it certainly appeared as if the Blues had pulled off a bit of coup in signing him from Juventus.

Having said that, the fact that the Italian champions were prepared to let him go and not insert a buy-back clause into the deal, might have been a red flag that not everything was as it seemed.

However he was signed and certainly gave early glimpses of his ability when he got a few minutes here and there in the Everton team early in the season.

I always felt that it was important to give him a sustained chance to impress and see if he could become the player we were hoping he might be. After all it isn’t as if the Blues are over-endowed with well-established goal scorers!

There is an argument that Kean needed time and I get that, but in the end we were never going to know if he could deliver if he didn’t have enough opportunity to do so. Under Silva he was consistently denied that chance.

I don’t know if that was because of his lack of experience or maturity, (although you can’t get experience if you don’t have a chance to gain it!), or whether it was because Silva didn’t want him to be signed in the first place.

Whatever the reason, the result was that Kean still hasn’t found the net for the Toffees since joining in the summer, even while he has continued to score goals for his country.

Kean has had fleeting moments recently showing his talent, he could and perhaps should, have scored in several recent games when he came on late in those matches.

So it’s Kean himself and Everton who have lost out in this scenario. Whoever takes over as manger, I would like to see him given a more sustained and consistent chance to gain the self-confidence and form he needs so that he can hopefully contribute goals for the team.

In other news, Rafa Benitez has apparently ruled out a return to the Premier League, at least for the time being. This, if true, is blow to those Blues fans, me included, who have been interested in seeing him take over at Everton.

Meanwhile there are still further stories doing the rounds that the Toffees are looking at managers such as Carlo Ancelotti and even the ex-Arsenal boss, Unai Emery.

Well until there is some definitive idea as to what direction the club intends to go in we will continue to see this endless rumour mill grinding on.
