So it’s now been confirmed that Carlo Ancelotti is the new manager of Everton Football Club!

This appointment has been mooted for several weeks ever since Ancelotti was sacked by Napoli. Now the club have finally confirmed that the Italian is taking over at Everton.

It’s hard to believe in a way that this has happened given the status in the game he has and the Blues past record of hiring at best, frankly mediocre managers.

It’s good news that the club have landed such a massive name. Although Ancelotti’s appointment isn’t guaranteed to be successful, his arrival is certainly a statement of intent by the club and it’s board of directors, something that most Evertonians, including me, have been urging them to do.

The 60-year-old coach will be officially taking up his post tomorrow and his first game in charge will be Burnley’s visit to Goodison Park on Boxing day.

Now we have to wait and see how Ancelotti will set his teams out to play and who he will be seeking to bring in terms of new players in January.

One possibility that we’ve mentioned before is Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Swedish star has always enjoyed a really good relationship with Ancelotti and so just might be tempted to come to Goodison Park in the new year.

While I hope he can make an immediate impact, realistically Ancelotti will probably need some time to make his presence felt and start turning things around at Everton.

In truth he will most likely need at least two transfer windows to really effect change. That doesn’t just mean signing new players but of course getting rid of the players he doesn’t feel are good enough, and I suspect that there a quite a few of those!

In may view the current, first-choice players who should stay are: Jordan Pickford, Lucas Digne, Djibril Sidibe, Mason Holgate, Yerry Mina, Tom Davies, Alex Iwobi, Bernard, Richarlison, Moise Kean and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Plus also both of the long-term injured midfielders Jean-Philippe Gbamin and Andre Gomes. We’ll see if Ancelotti agrees with me!

It will be very exciting and interesting time ahead for Everton as Ancelotti takes charge and begins his re-building. Lets hope it can really be the step-change that this once great club needs. Welcome to Everton Carlo!
