With news that rumoured Everton target Ciro Immobile is committed to staying at Lazio, might a former World Cup winning forward be the answer to the Blues search for more experience and goals up front.

There are stories in today’s ever faithful Liverpool Echo, that Everton might be a potential destination for the former Germany international star Mario Gotze.

The paper claims that Micheal Rummenigge has suggested that the Borussia Dortmund player should be considering a move to one of England’s clubs in an effort to revive his career and Everton were one of the clubs he specifically mentioned.

Gotze’s contract with the German outfit is up this summer so in theory at least, the 27-year-old should be available without a fee when the transfer window eventually opens.

However after bursting on the scene at a young age and scoring the winner in the 2014 World Cup final in Brazil, Gotze’s career has gone backwards in recent years.

This season he has again struggled to regain that exhilarating past form. In fact he has only started five games in the Bundesliga for Dortmund this term.

So the question is would it make sense for Everton to consider a move for him given the struggles he has had in recent seasons?

Gotze is a fine player with a range of qualities and a proven pedigree at the highest level of the game. Perhaps a change in scenery might be just what he needs to kick-start that career again.

Also in theory at least, he is at his peak and so on the plus side if he didn’t cost a transfer fee, that might make a deal relatively risk-free from the Toffees point of view.

Then again on the downside he might fail to find that form again and Everton would be left with another under performing player on their books, one probably costing plenty in wages too. Let’s face it the Blues have had far too many of those in recent years!

What about another possibility, the Barcelona striker Martin Braithwaite. The Danish forward has only just joined the Spanish giants in a controversial deal outside the official transfer window.

Despite that there are stories surfacing in the Spanish media that Braithwaite might be on the move again this summer with Goodison Park a possible destination, they claim.

I don’t know much about this player he seems to have somehow found his way to Barca almost from nowhere. But he fits the profile of the type of player that the Blues will likely be constantly linked with until league football starts again.
