Real rumour Everton in Welsh swoop
Well the CovId-19 lockdown rumour mill has gone into overdrive today, as Everton are now being linked with an ambitious move for the Real Madrid and Juventus stars, Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey.
This one takes the biscuit as the most unlikely transfer story to emerge from this surreal period so far. An online source, 90min.com are claiming Everton are considering approaching the two European giants with offers to bring their Welsh internationals back to the Premier League.
According to the website, Real and Juventus are prepared to listen to offers for both Bale and Ramsey, who have become increasingly surplus to requirements at their respective clubs.
Bale’s situation has been well-known for quite a while now with the 30-year-old forward having become a fringe player at the Bernabeu, especially under returning coach Zinidene Zidane.
His very public statement of where Real Madrid appear to fit into his priorities following a recent Wales game, have certainly not helped!
In addition, Bale has struggled with a succession of injuries in recent seasons, which have led to him spending an increasing amount of time out of the side.
All this makes the idea that the Blues would be interested in securing his services, sound pretty absurd to me.
Quite apart from the fact his age would make him very much outside the age group that Marcel Brands considers right for signing players, his injury problems indicate a player with chronic fitness problems who would likely spend more time on the treatment table than on the pitch.
Furthermore, Bale’s quoted wages of around £350,000 per week, would surely make him far too expensive a player to have sitting on the bench at Goodison Park.
Turning to Ramsey and this one is a little more intriguing. The former Arsenal player only moved to Italy in a big money transfer last summer.
However, the move hasn’t appeared to really work out for him and he is struggling to nail down a regular place at the Italian league leaders.

Ramsey is a good all-round midfielder whose main strengths are his workrate, tackling and shooting and although he doesn’t score too many goals he can chip in there too.
This would actually make him just the kind of player that Carlo Ancelotti wants and needs to improve his midfield’s defensive energy and quality.
On the downside, the Welshman is 29, making him again a player with little long-term sell-on value and like his fellow countryman Bale, he is on very high wages, which Everton would be most unlikely to match. He would also cost a significant transfer fee.
All in all then neither of these two players is likely to be pulling on the royal blues shirt come the beginning of next season, whenever that may be.
