It’s no secret that Everton want to strengthen their wide roles and have been pro-active in the off market to trigger deals. Carlo Ancelotti arrived from Napoli in December 2019 and since then has made major amends to the team. It’s no secret that the Italian coach still relishes his time at Naples and still wishes to work with players he had at Napoli. Ancelotti has previously discussed his admiration for Lorenzo Insigne, Dries Mertens and Jose Callejon. Looking at the bright side of things, Ancelotti’s wish to reunite with Jose Callejon might soon turn to reality.
The Spaniard is out of contract at Napoli at the end of the season and the player’s entourage is in talks with multiple teams across Europe. His future remains a knot yet to be resolved, but Manuel Garcia Quilon, Callejon’s agent is optimistic about Callejon’s future. According to AreaNapoli, there have been talks between Quilon and Everton sporting director Marcel Brands for a potential free transfer to Everton. However, the agent also said that Aston Villa are another team that are interested in the Spaniard’s services.

The 33 year old winger will love to reunite with Ancelotti at Everton, under whom he managed to provide 22 assists in 65 games. However, Jose Callejon’s agent also warned that Marcel Brands was also keen to look at other player profiles before finalizing any deal. The former Real Madrid man might not be the best option for the Toffees right now, considering the stage of the career he is at. At 33, he has at best, two seasons remaining in him and to switch to a completely new league and country might not work out well.
Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis was very stringent about offering Callejon a new extension deal. The President has offered him a year of extension and lower wages than he currently earns, though; Callejon is not too keen on agreeing on terms.
The Toffees shall pass here and not waste time and energy signing Jose Callejon. Despite being a very productive player, the 33 year old’s best days are past him. Everton shall avoid such risk of investing a player who is in the twilight of his career and rather focus on bringing a slightly younger player to Goodison Park.
