Over the past few years AS Roma has been a hunting ground for Premier League teams. Roma builds and refines a player and eventually sell them for a hefty price.
The Top Flight teams have been regular customers for Roma. From Alisson and Mohamed Salah to Liverpool, to the transfer of Antonio Rudiger and Emerson to Chelsea, teams are always on the lookout for emerging talents at Roma. This time it’s Everton who has set their sights on signing AS Roma winger Cengiz Under.
According to Italian newspaper La Gazetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness), Cengiz Under is the name running around the ears of Everton board for a few months now. The Toffees are said to be interested in the Turkish winger as they aim to give Carlo Ancelotti the best weapons at his disposal. The report further claims that first point of contact between two clubs have been made and the Toffees have taken information on Under. When the Italian boss took over the reins at Goodison in December, his vision was clear to take Everton back to the upper clutches of Europe. Club’s sporting director, Marcel Brands, also shares the philosophy and to achieve the goals, Ancelotti needs a top notch squad.

So far, the right wing has been an area of concern with Theo Walcott heavily underperforming in the manager’s 4-4-2 system. Alex Iwobi hasn’t settled well in Merseyside either, making the matter more serious. Carlo has been a huge admirer of Cengiz Under and will try to sign the 22 year old in the upcoming transfer window. AS Roma have informed Everton that they must shell out €30 million for Under’s services. However, the Toffees face competition from RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich as both Bundesliga teams have been tracking the Turk for quite some time. Considering Bayern Munich are concentrated on Leroy Sane, Under is not their top priority but rather a plan B.
€30 million is a huge amount of money especially after the club finances taking a major hit due to the Corona Virus pandemic but looking at the bigger aspect, at 22, Cengiz Under guarantees many more years at his absolute prime and can offer immediate solutions to Everton’s problems in the attack.
