Everton face competition from Arsenal for Inter Milan star
Everton are bracing for a busy summer transfer window and have already made enquiries about players they are interested in. Central midfield is one area that Carlo Ancelotti wants to strengthen and has recognized Inter Milan’s Matias Vecino as a possible target. However, Arsenal is set to compete with the Toffees for the Uruguayan star.
Inter Milan are set to welcome Radja Nainggolan back to San Siro after just one season of separation. The Nerazzurri have also set their sights on signing Sandro Tonali from Brescia and are now aiming to clear the midfield for fresh arrivals. This means Matias Vecino will be one of the players facing the axe as he has been instructed to search for a new club.
According to Liverpool Echo, Arsenal is set to enter a three-way transfer battle with Everton and Valencia for Matias Vecino. The Inter midfielder is available for a fee in the region of €25 million and all the three teams are ready to pay that much sum for Vecino’s services. Everton are agonizingly short of reliable options in midfield which has seen Adrien Rabiot and Allan also getting linked with a move to Goodsion Park.

Plans haven’t worked out with Jean-Philippe Gbamin or Morgan Schneiderlin. Fabian Delph can at max be a utility player but not a leader in the midfield. Matias Vecino presents a strong opportunity to re-energize the midfield. At 6 feet 2 inches, Vecino’s build makes him a strong physical presence in the middle of the park. He’s got the power to break through the lines and drive the ball forward, transitioning quickly from his box to the opposition box. His technical adeptness allows him to create attacks from middle and launch long balls forward to find Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez. He knows exactly when to switch the play and create an attack to bamboozle the opposition.
These particular skill sets are the reason why Arsenal have also entered the race to sign Vecino. Mikel Arteta wants a work horse with the ability to carry out the work with elegance and Vecino may be perfect candidate. With even Valencia prying on the Inter star as well, the next few weeks may be crucial and Everton will need to get ahead of the other clubs in Matias Vecino chase.
