Everton reportedly linked with veteran defender Thiago Silva
By James Reeve
Reports have emerged that suggest Everton are keen on bringing veteran defender Thiago Silva to Goodison Park when the next transfer window opens.
According to Le10 Sport, Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti is interested in signing 35-year-old Brazilian international Thiago Silva.
Silva, who has made 310 appearances in all competitions since joining Paris Saint Germain in 2012, is on an expiring contract and has not agreed to a new deal with the club.
This has led to many believing he is set to leave the French capital, with AC Milan also in the hunt for their former centre back.

Capped 88 times for Brazil, Silva would provide Ancelotti’s side with a wealth of experience and it is reported that the Toffees are hoping the player’s relationship and history with the Italian manage will make them strong contenders for his signature.
Despite his advanced age, Silva is still a quality ball-playing centre back, completing around 95% of his passes consistently, with 1440 completions during the 2019/20 Ligue 1 season alone.
With Everton having conceded the sixth-highest number of goals against in the 2019/20 Premier League campaign to date, defence certainly appears to be the priority moving forward.
Yerry Mina, Michael Keane and Mason Holgate have all split time in the heart of the defence this season, with Holgate emerging as a real talent and arguably the best of the bunch at the age of 23.
With Keane and Mina’s form largely being inconsistent during the course of the year, Ancelotti has done well to drag the team up to around mid-table after an extremely disappointing start.
If the veteran Italian is to help carry the team forward, adding some reliable players in defence will be arguably his biggest task during the next transfer window, with Thiago Silva certainly providing that.
His age will undoubtedly be a concern, especially considering the higher physicality typically experienced in the Premier League, but his experience, presence and ability to mentor Holgate would make him an extremely valuable addition to the team.
The seven-time Ligue 1 and one-time Serie A champion is unlikely to be the only centre back targeted at the next opportunity, but he certainly could provide plenty of value to Everton and improve a shaky defensive situation almost immediately.
