Everton receive a major blow in Real Madrid midfielder pursuit
Everton has been dealt a major blow in pursuit of Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez. The Colombian for long has wanted to leave Real Madrid over lack of match opportunities under Zinedine Zidane. Everton is ready to provide an escape route to Rodriguez by offering him a deal to join the Toffees and reunite with Carlo Ancelotti but former Real player Roberto Carlos has urged James to remain patient in Madrid.
The playmaker was the poster boy of the 2014 World Cup. His golden boot in Brazil was his golden ticket to Santiago Bernabeu and it was then Los Blancos manager Carlo Ancelotti who pushed the Real Madrid board to make the signing. Rodriguez produced top notch performances in his first season at Santiago Bernabeu, scoring 13 times and providing 13 assists under the Italian coach. However, James’ story took a wrong turn after Don Carlo’s sacking.
Since then, two sub-standard years at Bayern Munich on loan and sporadic appearances under Zidane has hampered Rodriguez’s growth. Injury problems haven’t helped him either as Zizou has preferred others over the Colombian. Reports emerged that Everton is keen to end James’ exile in Madrid and bring him to the Premier League.

Ancelotti presumed charge at the helm at Goodison Park in December and since then the stories of the reunification of the goldsmith (Ancelotti) and the gold (Rodriguez) has been doing rounds. However, former Real player and Brazil legend Roberto Carlos has advised James not to make any decision in haste and rather remain patient for his chance at Madrid.
"James is a phenomenon. I have great affection for him. I ask for a little patience with him. When James comes in to play he does it very well, there are many changes for him. The most important thing is that he has confidence in himself, that he continues training as he is, the fans love him very much, he is a great player. (Via HITC)"
This will not only be a major blow to Everton but a number of English Top Flight clubs chasing the 28 year old. Arsenal and Wolverhampton Wanderers are also mulling over a move for James Rodriguez and if Roberto Carlos’ words are to be taken seriously, Real and James’ association might just continue beyond this summer.
