Ever since Chelsea have been unchained from the claws of the transfer ban, they have been pouncing from one target to another like a ravenous beast. Hakim Ziyech is already a Chelsea player and RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner could soon follow the same fate. Werner’s transfer to the Stamford Bridge means good news for Everton as Chelsea will no longer remain in the hunt for Everton’s top forwards Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Despite the increased financial burden due to Corona Virus Pandemic, Chelsea are showing no signs of slowing down in the transfer market. Hakim Ziyech has already been signed for €40 million, Stamford Bridge is one of the most preferred destinations for Jadon Sancho. But, Timo Werner is attracting all the attention as the Blues have emerged the top contenders to sign the German. Initially, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool were said to be the favourites but Chelsea have now piped to sign the Leipzig talisman.

With Chelsea closer than ever to sign Timo Werner, Everton may breathe a sigh of relief as they can now keep hold of their prized forwards duo: Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. During the forced break, Chelsea were looking at the prospect of signing Richarlison in the upcoming transfer window. Richarlison has been a key cog for Everton ever since he joined the Toffees in 2018. One can argue that he is the commander of the team and majority of the moves involve him.

In his debut season with the Toffees, he scored 13 goals in the league and assisted 2 when Marco Silva constantly changed his position in order to get the best team shape. The Brazilian giant has been more prolific in his second season scoring 10 goals and setting up 3 in 27 league games.

Under Carlo Ancelotti, he operates at the top with Calvert-Lewin in a 4-4-2 formation. This means now he’s closer to the opposition goal and acts as a link between the midfield and his strike partner Calvert-Lewin. The Brazilian’s hard work off the ball and physicality in the final third is why Everton haven’t faced many issues related to goalscoring.

The former Watford player extended his future at Finch Farm till summer 2024 but interest from a side as big as Chelsea can flatter any player. Losing Richarlison to Chelsea or any other top European side could heavily disrupt Everton’s plans for the long term. In many ways, Everton’s hope of securing Champions League football in next few seasons hangs onto the impact Richarlison can have on the team.

Chelsea and Manchester United were also attracted to sign Dominic-Calvert Lewin. The Englishman has had a breakout season under Ancelotti. Calvert-Lewin has enjoyed some rich form ever since he’s become the prime striker in the Italian’s 4-4-2. The 23 year old striker has scored 8 goals in 12 games under Ancelotti and is one of the best performers of the team. He gels easily with Richarlison making it easy to operate in a two striker formation. His runs in the box and heading ability allow Everton’s full backs Lucas Digne and Seamus Coleman to dart crosses in the box.

Richarlison and DCL make the entire system work with fluidity. If the 4-4-2 has been fruitful for the Toffees, these two front men are to be majorly credited for their work. Everton can simply not let Calvert-Lewin go as he is central to Don Carlo’s plans.

All in all, Chelsea’s acquisition of Timo Werner will work out pretty well for Everton as they can be relaxed that none of their jewels are now a target for Chelsea. But, as dynamic and uncertain the transfer market is, things can change in matter of hours.
