Morgan Schneiderlin will leave Everton and join OGC Nice next summer.

According to Nice-matin, Everton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin is set to move to Ligue 1 club OGC Nice next season. The transfer fee has been agreed between the two clubs and Schneiderlin will undergo a medical next week. The French midfielder is set to end his 3 year spell at Goodison and move to France.

Morgan Schneiderlin was signed by Ronald Koeman in 2017 from Manchester United for €20 million. However, the club board will be forced to incur losses of €18 million as the player will leave the Toffees for only €2 million. As the transfer is confirmed, we look at the winners and losers from this transfer.

Winners:

OGC Nice:

The French club is one of the biggest gainers from this transfer as they now have a star midfielder who can anchor their midfield. Morgan Schneiderlin might have lost his touch that he had at Southampton but he is still worthy enough of being useful for a team like Nice. OGC Nice manager Patrick Vieira has observed Schneiderlin in the Premier League back in the days when Vieira was the Manchester City youth academy coach. The Nice manager had given a green light for the midfielder’s purchase and has already made plans to incorporate the 30 year old in his team.

This is one of the biggest transfer coups for Nice as they manage to convince Everton to sell Schneiderlin for a minimal fee of just €2 million. They have saved millions here which can be used to strengthen the squad as they continue their quest for European football.

Morgan Schneiderlin:

The former Manchester United midfielder will be another winner from this transfer. At Everton, the Frenchman had struggled under all managers, from Koeman to Marco Silva to Carlo Ancelotti. Schneiderlin was only seen as a fringe player by the Italian boss and was only given game time when majority of his midfield players were out injured. The 30 year old simply failed to live up to the expectations of the Everton fans and board.

Schneiderlin could have seen complete isolation from the starting line up next season as big players like Adrien Rabiot, Allan, Pierre-Emile Hojberg continue to be linked with a move to Goodison Park.

At Allianz Riviera, the Frenchman has a chance to start with a clean slate and impress his new boss and new team mates. He is likely to get a better role in the Nice team, potentially of a regular starter which will be a huge confidence booster for Morgan Schneiderlin.

Tom Davies:

The young Englishman is set to be benefitted immensely from Schneiderlin’s transfer to Les Aiglons. The 21 year old has been used extensively this season and has already made 21 league appearances so far. Upon the arrival of Ancelotti, Davies received a huge boost as he got an important squad role. However, he was still expected to compete with the likes of Fabian Delph and Morgan Schneiderlin for a place in the lineup.

With Andre Gomes returning to full fitness, Tom Davies might see a reduction in game time but with Schneiderlin’s sale, we can say Tom Davies has moved up the ladder and now has a better chance of making it to the starting eleven.

Losers:

Everton:

Everton and Marcel Brands seem to be on the receiving end of this transfer. Everton will have to swallow a major financial loss on the player. It is pretty shameful that the Toffees could only get €2 million for the 30 year old midfielder. Not only have they sustained heavy losses in this Corona Virus pandemic hit season but also put their other transfer plans in jeopardy.
