Everton have been handed a transfer blow in the race to sign Arsenal target Wilfried Zaha.

Everton have been in pursuit of Crystal Palace ace Wilfried Zaha for a longtime now and have intensified their efforts during this forced off-season. The Merseyside club made numerous attempts in the summer transfer window as well. They saw their multiple bids get rejected and in the end had to settle with signing Alex Iwobi from Arsenal on the transfer deadline day. The Eagles slapped a price tag of £60 million on the Ivory Coast international and will be expecting to coup a similar fee.

Arsenal and Everton are currently the two teams who have been heavily linked to Wilfried Zaha. However, there has been a major twist in the story. According to Bleacher Report, the 27 year old is aware of the interest Everton have had in him but he is currently staying put and expects a move to a bigger team than the Toffees.

Ligue 1 champions PSG have also shown interest in Zaha and that is the kind of a team the Ivorian would fancy playing for. So, should the Toffees go all in and convince Wilfried Zaha to sign for them?

Zaha is a mercurial player with excellent skills on the ball, but his performances have dwindled over the two seasons. The former Manchester United forward has managed only 3 goals and 5 assists in 29 league games compared to 10 goals and 10 assists in 34 games last season.

Even though stellar form can be regenerated, the entire transfer is likely to cost Everton a huge amount of money. In this Corona Virus pandemic scenario, where club finances are shrinking day by day, it would be best for the Toffees to focus on other deals. Willian is a free agent at the end of the season and can be signed. That deal will be much more economical as the club will only have to focus on paying the wages to the player.

The battle for Wilfried Zaha is likely to pick up pace as other clubs join in. The Crystal Palace forward has 9 games to impress his observers and convince the bigger teams to come and get him from Selhurst Park. As for the Toffees, even though they have received a blow in Zaha’s pursuit, it shouldn’t hurt them or jeopardize any of their transfer strategies.
