Everton are set to ramp up their interest in Tottenham Hotspur target Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Everton and Tottenham Hotspur lock horns in London this Monday but the two sides have already waged a war off the field, in the hunt to sign Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The last month has been a roller coaster ride for Southampton and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. The Denmark international is set to enter the final year of his contract this summer and Saints coach Ralph Hasenhuttl warned that the 25 year old captain is sending a wrong message to the team by not agreeing to an extension.

A few days later Southampton CEO Martin Semmens admitted that they might be forced to sell Hojbjerg this summer or risk losing him on a free transfer. The CEO also revealed the 25 year old’s intentions to play for a side who have ambitions of playing in the Champions League. Everton and Tottenham Hotspur were said to be the first teams to ignite interest in the midfielder.

Hojbjerg was stripped of Southampton captaincy which made it evidently clear that he’ll be on his way out of the St.Mary’s stadium. It was reported that the Saints had put a £35 million price tag on the Danish midfielder.

According to the Daily Mail, Everton are hoping to beat Spurs to sign the former Bayern Munich man. The Toffees see Hojbjerg as a perfect player capable of improving the midfield by miles.

The player wants to join a side that regularly competes in Europe and the North Londoners offer a better chance at the moment but their precarious financial situation holds them back from making such a transfer.

The club hierarchy is willing to negotiate a player plus cash deal which may see Kyle Walker-Peters sign for the south coast side permanently. However, Southampton are adamant on taking only cash in order to improve their own financial situation.

The Toffees have the vision to reach the top and have already begun laying the ground work by appointing Carlo Ancelotti. The Italian’s idea is to transform the team into a stable entity that can challenge for titles and Champions League places. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg may be tempted to be a part of this exciting project.
