Everton should make a move on Martin Braithwaite if Lautaro Martinez moves to Barcelona.

The transfer of Martin Braithwaite to Barcelona was a controversial one as the Blaugrana acquired his services outside the stipulated transfer window. Ousmane Dembele’s injury allowed Barca to officially make a move for Braithwaite.

The Danish international was never a long term signing and was just a temporary solution to Barcelona’s attacking problems. After less than six months of his arrival at Camp Nou, the talks of separation have begun.

The 29 year old has done a commendable job in a Barca shirt whenever he’s handed the opportunity on the field, however, Catalans always considered him as a utility player and not someone who could improve the quality of the squad.

The Spanish giants have fallen in love with Lautaro Martinez and despite heavy financial losses, the club isn’t backing down in their pursuit of the Argentine. Lautaro will cost upwards of £100 million and the club will need to make sales to balance the Financial Fair Play books.

In such a situation, the axe of Martin Braithwaite will be on the cards. Ousmane Dembele will return to the squad next term, Barca are super ambitious on Martinez project, Barcelona are super stacked with Lionel Messi, Anotine Griezmann, Luis Suarez and Ansu Fati upfront, so finding a place for the 29 year old striker will be an uphill struggle.

Sport previously claimed that Everton are interested in acquiring the services of Martin Braithwaite. In my opinion, he could really be a proper option for the Toffees. Signing him and making a few tactical tweaks in the side, and the whole system could come alive.

All the fans are aware of the need for a new right winger but no progress has been made in the chase of Cengiz Under or Hirving Lozano. Ideally, both these would cost upwards of £30 million but Braithwaite will be gettable in the region of £20 million.

The idea is to slot Richarlison at the right wing and have Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Braithwaite up top. The Dane has experience of playing in a two striker formation from his Leganes days and perhaps offers more threat from the striking position than any other role in the forward line.

He brings pace and directness to the team, something which Everton have lacked from time to time. He is quick, he is strong and a very intelligent off the ball player which will suit Everton very well. As for Richarlison, he played at the right wing under Marco Silva and has shown good signs of progression.

There’s the obvious argument that the Brazilian is more suited with Calvert-Lewin but Richarlison is the heartbeat of the team. When operating from the right he will be closer to the midfield and can actively involve himself in the build up play.

As for Martin Braithwaite, he will have to make up his mind on what challenge should he pursue. He may put his heart out, give blood and sweat to impress the coach yet may not find himself in Barcelona’s plans.

That doesn’t ignore the fact that he isn’t talented enough to cut it at the top level, Everton must consider him a serious option. Not many players can offer what the Danish international offers at the table. So, economically and tactically Martin Braithwaite is a reliable and strong possibility that Marcel Brands can go forward with.
