Everton clash with Southampton at Goodison Park on Thursday.

Everton take on Southampton on Thursday in an exciting tie which could see a major table shake up. The Toffees will have to avoid a defeat against the South Coast side or they’ll see Saints going past them up in the table.

The Merseyside team isn’t riding high on confidence after a dismal 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur on Monday. The team didn’t turn up, the likes of Alex Iwobi, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Tom Davies heavily underperformed heavily and a wicked deflection resulting in the only goal summed up Toffees’ night in North London.

A new game is a new opportunity and Everton will be hoping to squeeze out a win against Southampton in order to keep the last of dying European hopes alive. Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side looks in good shape since the restart with a 1-0 win against outgoing Champions Manchester City being a season highlight. When these two sides last met in November 2019, Everton walked away with 3 vital away points at St.Mary’s.

We at Prince Rupert’s Tower got in touch with Marc Walker from Saints Marching to get a Southampton fan point of view before the game.

PRT: Saints are coming off a win against the rampant Manchester City side, does that make you confident of getting 3 points at Goodison Park?

"Marc Walker (Saints Marching): Saints will be very confident going into this game given that they have won three games out of four since returning to action. Their away record is also one of the best in the Premier League. However, our record at Goodison Park is not great and Everton are a very strong team on their day"

PRT: Who do you think will be the most threatening Southampton player to Everton and why?

"Marc: The obvious threat to Everton will be Danny Ings given that it looks like he can’t miss in front of goal at the moment. Other than him, Stuart Armstrong has been a key player for Saints recently and has popped up with some important goals from the right wing."

More from Prince Rupert's Tower

PRT: Which Everton player are you most worried about and why?

"Marc: As an England fan, it’s is great to see the season that Dominic Calvert-Lewin has had and our defence will have to be switched on to stop him at source. I’m also a fan of Andre Gomes and he has the ability to dictate Thursday’s game if Saints let him – it’s also great to see him coming back so strongly from injury"

PRT: Where will be the key battle on the field?

"Marc: Some teams have exposed our defence this season with direct play that often sees our two centre-backs up isolated against strikers, so Everton may sense an opportunity there. If Ward-Prowse and Romeu can control the midfield for us though, it could give us a great opportunity to grab the win."

PRT: What is your match and score prediction?

"Marc: Given that Everton are a tough team to go away to, I would take a draw and I’ll predict the score being 2-2."
