Everton target Weston McKennie is closing on a Schalke 04 exit.
Everton have received a transfer boost as Schalke 04 midfielder is closing on an exit as the Bundesliga club’s financial situation worsens due to the Corona Virus pandemic. However, the Toffees are not alone in the hunt for the American with neighbours and arch-rivals Liverpool also keen on the midfielder.
According to CBS Sports, Weston McKennie is on the verge of leaving the Die Knappen this summer. Schalke 04 has seen their economic charts take a huge dip, alerting the management to take concrete steps to avoid a major financial disaster.
One way to repair the financial damage is to sell some of the most exciting and rising players, a small sacrifice you need to make for the larger scheme of things. Weston McKennie has previously stated his desire to play in the Premier League and this wish of his could certainly come true this summer.
The American international has had a decent season in Germany but Schalke have once again disappointed massively. He continues to be a vital member of the squad and presents a good case to be a prudent Everton signing.

McKennie is rated at £22.5 million and the Toffees may not argue much on the asking price for such a talented player. The Blues have had terrible luck with Jean-Philippe Gbamin and Fabian Delph. Both the Everton midfielders have spent majority of their time on sidelines, radically affecting the midfield depth.
The 21 year old could offer much needed relief to a depleted midfield. He could be an ideal partner for someone like Andre Gomes in the middle of the park. If Ancelotti decides to have Mason Holgate in midfield as an enforcer, McKennie can do the job of creating chances.
The report further added that Weston McKennie is eyeing a move to a European side that has ambitions of playing in the Europa and Champions League. Everton are determined to go back at the top and not remain a mid-table side. Everton and McKennie could be a perfect marriage that either entity could think of.
However, Marcel Brands will have to compete with a host of clubs to win the 21 year old’s signature. But, the Merseysiders do have a trump card that can assist them massively. Schalke currently has Jonjoe Kenny on loan from the Toffees and the Germans are mesmerized by the full back’s displays. A player plus cash deal would be acceptable to Schalke 04 as well, they sell one of their wantaway stars and at the end of the day walk away with cash as well as a valuable player.
Will we see Weston McKennie at Goodison Park next season?
