Everton is eyeing a move for Tyrone Mings but face competition from Manchester United.

Aston Villa isn’t enjoying their first season after promotion to the Premier League at all. After some initial promise during the pre-season, the Villians have gone downhill ever since. Their slump has continued till date and as a result finds themselves staring at relegation.

Following an identical Fulham model of the 2019-19 season, the newly promoted side spent over a £100 million in transfers with an aim to match the squad quality of the teams in the Top Flight. Aston Villa will follow the same fate of Fulham, getting relegated at the end of the season.

If anything the owners should have learned from Fulham that despite spending millions in the transfer market, you can go down if you fail to find the right balance. Now with the Dean Smith’s side already in the relegation zone, news is circulating like wildfire about top players eyeing an exit.

The captain Jack Grealish remains one of the most wanted names in England with Manchester United, Manchetser City and Tottenham Hotspur all linked with the talisman.  John McGinn and Trezeguet are other names being murmured in the transfer street. However, the most recent player associated with a Villa Park exit is defender Tyrone Mings.

According to Sunday Mirror (12/7, page 69), Tyrone Mings has emerged as a transfer target for Everton. The report further adds that the Merseysiders will have to fight Ole Gunnar’s Solskjaer to sign the 27 year old centre back.

More from Prince Rupert's Tower

The Englishman switched Bournemouth for Villa for £20 million in summer 2019 and instantly became a first team regular. In fact, Mings has the most Villa appearances for a defender this season appearing in 29 Premier League games. Even though Dean Smith’s side has leaked goals all season long, Mings is a pretty solid player to have in the backline.

Tyrone Mings is an adept tackler and often excels in one on one duels. Another quality worth mentioning is his ability to play long balls over the opposition heads. This quality in particular will be highly beneficial to Everton as they employ a direct possession based style.

The 27 year old is rated at around £30 million but the price could fall soon if Villa’s relegation is confirmed. The club will be taking huge financial losses on their return to the Championship and selling players will be the easiest and quickest way to recover the damages. In such condition, the club hierarchy won’t have much leverage and would back down eventually on the asking price.
