Despite reports linking Ancelotti with his former players, he has denied that in one report. According to the Daily Mail, Ancelotti has said he is looking for players he doesn’t know. However, Ancelotti may be deploying a smokescreen to disguise his intentions.

Another player who could fill this position for Everton is Geoffrey Kondogbia of Valencia. Valencia is prepared to let Kondogbia go, according to Spanish radio station Cadena Cope. A Central African Republic international, the 27-year-old Kondogbia has been averaging 4 tackles a game in La Liga this season, according to Infogoal.

Lucas Digne, who has continued to play well for Everton in his second season at the club knows Kondogbia and that might tip the scale towards Goodison Park if Kondogbia, who is also interesting Tottenham Hotspur, has a choice to make.

The robust midfielder has proven to be an excellent holding man in a 4-4-2 formation that Valencia employ. Ancelotti’s Everton have largely played a 4-4-2 formation with occasionally going for a 3-5-2. With Kondogbia well aware of the operationality of a 4-4-2 formation, operating as a central midfielder, it won’t take much time for the 27 year old to adjust to the Everton surroundings.

At 27, Kondogbia is younger than Allan and will probably be cheaper. Kondogbia is available for 26 million pounds. Kondogbia could either provide cover for Jean-Phillipe Gbamin, 24, who had 90 tackles in 30 games in his final season in Germany. Kondogbia could also replace Gbamin if his injuries prove too much.
