Good news for Everton as Manchester United flop continues to postpone new deal
Everton target and Manchester United flop Memphis Depay continues to postpone new Lyon deal.
The stay of Memphis Depay in England was nothing short of a nightmare. Touted as the next big thing, even compared to the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo on his arrival at Old Trafford from PSV Eindhoven in 2015. Lost, desolated and frustrated figure under Louis Van Gaal, Olympique Lyon finally came to Depay’s rescue. After two successful years in Lyon, Depay might be on the move and Everton may be a possible destination.
While people thought that Memphis Depay had dug his own grave by moving to Manchester United and he won’t be able to ever resurrect his career. After two and a half seasons in France, Lyon supporters are going crazy by how the Dutchman has lead from the front and showcased exquisite football skills along with outstanding leadership qualities.
All was going well for Lyon fans until the talks of a potential exit resurfaced. It is true that when Depay arrived at Groupama Stadium, he was under confident, lacking self-belief and Les Gones gave him the platform to rebuild his form. His form picked up the sixth gear again as he became the Lyon talisman, scoring 10 goals and 10 assists in 36 Ligue 1 games last term.
Had a cruciate ligament injury not hampered his current season, he was on course to smash his best goal tally since moving to France. The entire time away from the field sent Memphis Depay into deep zones of retrospection. Simultaneously, AC Milan, Everton and Arsenal took note of the Dutchman and ignited interest in the 26 year old.

To the Toffees’ good news, Memphis Depay may be considering a departure from France. Lyon are aware of the interest from other European sides and want to extend his current deal which runs till 2021. However, Lyon have returned empty handed so far as Deapy has postponed negotiations.
According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Memphis Depay has rejected any advancements from Lyon over a potential new deal. The Dutchman has postponed the talks over a new deal and wants more time to think over his future.
This is surely good news for Everton. The 26 year old is admired by the club board and could prove to be the X-factor that the club has been searching for. Even though AC Milan and Arsenal are tough competitors, the Toffees will throw everything possible to sign the forward.
If Lyon is to part ways due to Depay’s wish, he would be available in the region for £30 million and perhaps Everton would be willing to pay such an amount for Memphis Depay who could be the face of the rebuild.
