Everton has tabled a new and improved offer for Tottenham Hotspur target Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The Southampton want away star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is now a subject of a tug of war with Everton and Tottenham Hotspur going all out to sign the Danish midfielder. A move in the summer is set in stone; the only question is where does he go? Merseyside or London?

The story began when news surfaced that Hojbjerg is rejecting advances from the Saints over a new deal as his current contract is set to expire in 2021. Being the captain of the team, Southampton coach Ralph Hasenhuttl thought that not renewing the contract sends a wrong message to the entire squad. As a result, he was soon stripped of captaincy and Saints hierarchy also stated that they will allow the 24 year old to leave should a significant offer arrive.

The South coast side quoted a price of £35 million but potential suitors like Everton, Arsenal and Spurs were confident of landing the Denmark international for a more reasonable fee. The Toffees were the first team to make a concrete bid for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg,

Everton launched the first bid of £18 million but it failed to turn the attention of Southampton as the current bid was far away from their evaluation. Carlo Ancelotti is keen to have a midfielder of Hojbjerg’s stature in the team as the Royal Blues kick start their overhaul in the summer transfer window.

The Toffees have now tables a second offer within a week in a serious attempt to lure the former Bayern Munich midfielder. According to Daily Echo, Everton have tabled an improved bid of £20 million for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

However, Hojbjerg’s preferred choice is Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham but their bid is still nowhere close to what Ancelotti’s side have tabled. Spurs are weighing on a player plus cash deal, sending Kyle Walker-Peters to St. Mary’s stadium.

Saints have made it clear that they aren’t going to budge from their £35 million valuation and any team interested will have to cough up an adequate amount of money for Hojbjerg’s services.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is the kind of player that will instantly improve the struggling Toffees midfield and stabilize the team. We can expect another bid from Marcel Brands if the £20 million bid is rejected(the bid will most likely be rejected).

Everton are playing hardball and trying to get as stringent as possible, but being stringent is the need of the hour, considering the availability of funds is curtailed by the pandemic and the Merseysiders have a number of departments to improve.

Will Pierre-Emile Hojberg be an Everton player next season?
