Everton must look into signing Arturo Vidal from Barcelona.

Pundits, supporters and every Evertonian have talked about Everton midfield and how it lacks tenacity and energy. Andre Gomes relies on his technical brilliance and is a handy player in the final third when it comes to threading through balls and making slick passes. However, the Toffees lack an outright box-to-box midfielder who galvanizes the midfield by making eye catching runs as well as in throwing himself into brave challenges to help out the defence. Arturo Vidal of Barcelona certainly suits the profile.

According to Marca, Barcelona is ready to listen to offers to as many of their 12 players and Arturo Vidal is one of them. The Barcelona man has previously also indicated that he will leave Catalonia should he not be considered as an important option in the squad. With the current crop of players at Barcelona, Frenkie De Jong, Miralem Pjanic, Sergio Busquets are likely to take on the starting role. The evolution of Riqui Puig is also a key factor, as the La Masia product is likely to get more game time next term.

This will leave Vidal in a tricky situation. He wouldn’t be a serious contention for the starting role but rather a convenient substitute option. We all know Vidal isn’t the ideal Barcelona type midfielder but his robust and courageous nature has made him an X-factor of the team. Having a player like Arturo Vidal helps any team tick many boxes.

The midfielder can play as a central midfield anchor, an attacking midfielder who can make smart runs during the attack, adding a lethal outlet in the final third and also guard the defence. The Chilean has proved that despite being 33, he can play at the highest of levels without letting his intensity drop.

In fact, for many Cules, Vidal is the much needed injection of energy in a lethargic Barcelona midfield. The Catalans want to sell him before he becomes a liability and also in order to balance the financial books, Everton must take advantage and try to sign him.

He has the champion mentality that he carried since his days at Juventus then Bayern Munich and now Barcelona. Vidal has the stereotypical South American trait of living his heart out on the field and giving every bit of juice to the team’s cause in the middle of the park.

This is something Everton have lacked for years now and the arrival of Arturo Vidal will solve majority of the issues. An enforcer, a physical beast, Arturo Vidal has everything in his locker to succeed in the Premier League.

With his contract expiring in 2021, Barcelona are ready to sell him for as little as €8 million which will be a highway robbery should Everton pull it off.
