Everton could sign Gylfi Sigurdsson successor from Premier league rivals
Norwich City midfielder Todd Cantwell might ignite sluggish Everton midfield.
Lack of creativity, lack of desire, and loss of form have characterised The Toffees’ midfield for much of this season. Playing in his first season in the Premier League, Norwich City midfielder Todd Cantwell has scored six goals (more than any Everton midfielder). He also added two assists. Cantwell, who played left attacking midfielder most of the time, has also played in all three attacking midfield slots.
He averaged 38 passes a match and completed 82 per cent of them, not too bad for his first season in the Premier League, according to Football critic. Todd Cantwell introduced himself to the Merseyside when he scored the Canaries first goal in a 2-0 win at Goodison Park. It was one of Norwich’s five victories this season.
I’m going to pick on Gylfi Sigurdsson again and if Everton do go after Cantwell, it will be likely fill Sigurdsson’s spot.
The 30-year-old Iceland international has not been the creative force he was expected to be, especially after his 13 goals and six assists in 2018-19. So far this season, he has two goals and three assists. Gylfi Sigurdsson, who has been asked to play deeper by Carlo Ancelotti, has completed 83 percent of 34 passes this season. However, Cantwell has played more passes (15) in the final third of the pitch; while Sigurdsson has attempted 11.

Norwich coach Daniel Farke recognised Cantwell’s talent when the Canaries where still in the Championship, but he was reserved with his praise.
"I am totally happy with how Todd develops and how he influences our game. But he has not won the Champions League or the World Cup, he has not worn the Three Lions on his shirt, and when I think how many goals and assists we have so far then we can add something."
Norwich may be forced to sell Todd Cantwell after their drop has been confirmed. The Toffees aren’t the only club linked with him as West Ham and Spurs, among others linked with Cantwell.
With transfer target Pierre-Emile Hojberg more than likely to go to Spurs. It would make good sense for Everton to move for Cantwell. He’s younger than Gylfi Sigurdsson and will probably earn less than the 100,000 pounds a week that Sigurdsson does.
The Royal Blues missed out on James Maddison when he moved on from Norwich to Leicester City for around 20 million. I think it would be a shame for Everton to miss out on a player, who could match Maddison.
Is Todd Cantwell a solid option for the Toffees?
