Everton has been linked to Inter Milan stars Ivan Perisic and Matias Vecino.

The transfer window begins today and with it begins the circus of negotiations, offers, proposals and rejections. Everton are beginning their squad overhaul and targeting some competent players across Europe to improve the squad quality. The likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Allan and Gabriel Magalhaes have already been mentioned but no major progress has been made. Inter Milan duo Matias Vecino and Ivan Perisic have also been linked.

The Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg transfer hasn’t panned out how Everton would have wanted it with the Southampton midfielder likely to sign for Tottenham Hotspur. The Dane himself prefers Spurs but Everton took a lot of efforts to persuade him to join the Royal Blues. With Hojbjerg out of the contention, the Toffees have now shifted their focus on Allan with reports suggesting that an improved bid of £34 million has been made and personal terms of £90,000 a week have already been agreed with the Brazilian.

However, paying £34 million for a player who will enter 30’s in a few months isn’t smart business. The plan C is Inter Milan midfielder Matias Vecino. According to Calciomercato, Antonio Conte is ready to sell Vecino as the Nerazzurri prepare for new arrivals with Sandro Tonali a strong option.

The Uruguayan is a player having the credentials to uplift the Everton midfield and provide solid support to the wobbling department. Matias Vecino has the required skills to act as an anchor in the midfield and drive the ball forward using his physicality and slick passing.

The 28 year old is available for a fee of around £18 million which is a bargain compared to Allan’s £34 million bid. Marcel Brands may have to rethink about spending such money on the Napoli man when Matias Vecino is available for almost half the price.

The other Inter Milan star that has been linked to the Toffees is Ivan Perisic. According to Inside Futbol, Everton have joined the race with Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United to sign the Croatian wide man. Ivan Perisic has returned to Milan after a satisfactory loan spell at Bayern Munich, scoring 6 goals and assisting another 10 in 31 games in the Die Roten shirt.

The Bavarians had a clause of making the deal permanent for £18 million but the German club have decided not to exercise the option, leaving the likes of Manchester United and Everton to battle for the 31 year old. However, the Red Devils are said to be in pole position to sign the Croat as United and Inter Milan discuss a possible Perisic-Alexis Sanchez swap deal.

Carlo Ancleotti wants to improve squad depth and the 31 year old offers versatility and experience to the Merseyside team. The winger is available in the region of £20 million but will Everton be successful in signing Ivan Perisic remains to be seen.

In fact, Eveton have a higher preference in signing Hirving Lozano or Wilfried Zaha this summer. Nonetheless, Everton may plan an Inter Milan double swoop should they fail to land other targets. That being said, at least Matias Vecino should be the first choice compared to Allan.
