Richarlison fired a shot across the bows of the Everton hierarchy and scared fans at the same time.

The Brazilian, who led Everton in scoring for the second straight season and is likely to be named player of the year made the off-season more nerve-grating for the Toffee faithful when talked about the possibility of a move.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the Blues’ top scorer told Globo Esporte he can “hold on for another season” but if rival clubs made offers he would “sit down and talk”.

However, Everton plan to build the team around the 23-year-old , with Carlo Ancelotti considering him essential to his blueprint. The forward is tied down until the summer of 2024 following the contract extension he signed in December.

That doesn’t mean he’s ready to head out the door the minute somebody waves some money under his nose. It means that he’s an ambitious player and wants to compete at the highest possible level with his club. If he didn’t have any ambition, he could have stayed at Watford, still made a good living and scored goals for fun in the Championship.

Wayne Rooney and Romelu Lukaku left Everton seeking more competition. Lukaku also moved on from Manchester United.

Everton has already reportedly turned down a bid from Barcelona for the Brazilian international.

Richarlison has improved since his move to Everton from Watford and everybody involved in decision-making at the club should do their utmost to bring in better players to surround Richarlison. The talismanic-forward scored 13 times this season and has been told by Ancelotti he can score more.

"I think he’s [Richarlison] a player you cannot put a target on. He’s a fantastic player, of course 20 goals is the minimum but I expect more from him. He’s still young but he has a lot of quality, a lot of character. As I said yesterday he’s really cool in front of goal and I think every one of us is happy to have this kind of striker. (via Liverpool Echo)"

After all, if Richarlison has better players around him, surely, he will perform better and every Toffee should want him to do it in Royal Blue Jersey.
