Everton must closely watch Timothy Castagne and Jerome Boateng in Champions League.

4. Timothy Castagne

Atalanta are the dark horses in this year’s Champions League. They seem to be unstoppable at the moment and have torn and smashed everything apart that has come in their way. A lot of their success is down to how Gian Piero Gasperini lines up his troops.

While players like Duvan Zapata and Josip Ilicic snatch the headlines, the contributions of full backs Robin Gosens and Timothy Castagne has gone unnoticed. The situation of Timothy Castagne is an interesting one as the player has one year left on his deal. The Belgian is attracting interest from England and Germany and may make a move.

Everton are on the hunt for a right back and Castagne may be the man. He could provide immediate competition to Seamus Coleman and act as a long term successor to the Irishman. The 24 year old is technically adept in defence and a threat going forward, a perfect specimen of a modern day full back.

5. Jerome Boateng

Bayern Munich are on a roll despite not having some of their best players available for majority of the season. Lucas Hernandez and Niklas Sule were out injured for most part of the season which saw Jerome Boateng enter the first team. In the beginning of season, Bayern had conveyed it to Boateng that his services are now surplus to requirements.

With Sule and Hernandez now returning to full fitness, game time won’t come easy for the German. Everton are on the hunt for a new centre back and while they evaluate options such as Thiago Silva, they must also look into the prospect of signing Boateng.

The 31 year old can offer more playing years than Silva and also has some English football experience under his belt. With his association running with the Bavarians till 2021, a move away this summer can be on the cards. Everton can have Jerome Boateng for a bargain fee this summer.
