Everton may want to shift their focus on Kurt Zouma of Chelsea after Arsenal emerge as new favourites to sign Gabriel Magalhaes.

Arsenal have emerged as surprise front runners in Gabriel Magalhaes chase, jumping over Everton, Manchester United and Napoli in the race. With each passing day, the chances of the Toffees signing Gabriel are diminishing. Marcel Brands may soon need to exercise a plan B which could be in the form of Kurt Zouma of Chelsea.

The Gabriel Magalhaes transfer saga has more turns and twists than an F1 Monaco circuit. From Everton being the favourites to sign the Brazilian to continuously battling Napoli and Manchester United to acquire his services. The transfer saga is now getting out of hand and it is high time that Everton begin thinking of a plan ‘B’.

The Royal Blues have been in the hunt for Kurt Zouma but the interest faded out as the attempt to sign Gabriel picked up pace. The Chelsea centre back hasn’t been given first team guarantees for next season as the Blues continue to explore centre back options in the market.

According to the Times, Chelsea are willing to let go of a bunch of players which also included Frenchman Zouma. This is a golden opportunity for the Toffees to acquire their long term target. Carlo Ancelotti has also admired the 25 year old and certainly wouldn’t mind having him at Goodison Park.

The Toffees have initiated a major overhaul. However, the squad rebuild won’t happen within a space of few months or a single transfer window. It will be a step based process, focusing on next three-four transfer windows.

While defence also remains an area to be sorted, the midfield is in shambles requiring immediate attention. A similar conundrum has risen at the right wide position. A plan could be to focus on midfield and wings and bring a permanent signing while acquiring defenders on loan for a season.

A long term surgery on the defence can be concentrated on for next season. In such case, bringing Kurt Zouma on loan will be a masterstroke.

The 25 year old previously spent a loan spell at Goodison Park and is well aware of the locker room. Chelsea are just keen to offload Kurt Zouma, it doesn’t matter if it’s a loan proposal or a permanent offer.

Everton could work on a loan deal for Kurt Zouma, covering his weekly wages and if the Frenchman’s performances are up to the mark, a permanent transfer can be initiated next season.
