Everton have been given a boost in their chase of Manchester United flop Memphis Depay who is eyeing a Premier League return.

Memphis Depay arrived in England as a rising footballer capable of replicating the success of compatriot Robin Van Persie but a horrible time at Manchester United put his career trajectory off course. A move to Olympique Lyon did help Depay in resurging his career and now the Dutchman is ready to try his luck again in the Premier League, boosting the chances of Everton to land the United flop.

Memphis Depay has been numerously linked to Everton in the last few weeks. Publications from France, England and Spain have suggested that Depay is a serious Toffees target. AC Milan, Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund are also in the chase but no progress will be made until Lyon complete their Champions League campaign.

What makes every team hopeful is that the Dutchman’s contract is expiring in summer 2021 and so far he has rejected every advance from Ligue 1 club for a potential new deal. Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has also tried to establish a communication channel with the team’s talisman but Depay has refused to sit on the negotiations table.

The 26 year old will only address his future after the Champions League but it increasingly looks like he is eyeing the exit door at Groupama Stadium. Everton should be in a more favoured position compared to the likes of Dortmund and Milan because Spanish media outlet TodoFichajes confirm that Memphis Depay is more inclined towards a Premier League return.

Even according to Le10 Sport, Memphis Depay is in the eye of Everton hierarchy, who is the highest earner at Lyon. The French publication has also named Bundesliga giants Dortmund in the mix.

However, the 26 year old is eyeing a move back to England so the Toffees may start working on the back end of a deal and launch offers after the European competitions are over. Staving off Arsenal may be a challenging task but if the Royal Blues do manage to sign Depay it will be a huge coup for the Merseysiders.

Depay had an injury stricken season and was expected to miss the remaining season when he picked up a cruciate ligament injury in December. Thanks to a global lockdown and 3 month halt to football in Europe, the forward has just returned to first team action before the all-important Champions League tie against Juventus.

The future of Memphis Depay will be decided after the last run of games in the UCL but the constant links to Everton are an encouraging sign.
