Everton can target Moussa Sissoko of Tottenham after Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg arrived at Spurs.

Tottenham Hotspur has announced the signing of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton. The Dane was a target for Everton as well but he always had his eyes set on playing for the Spurs which eventually forced the Toffees to look at other options. With Hojbjerg a Spurs player, Everton can offer Moussa Sissoko a way out of North London.

Everton midfield is one of the weakest areas and improving the quality will be a top agenda on Carlo Ancelotti’s list. With the recent turn of events at Tottenham Hotspur, Moussa Sissoko should be an option to consider. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg signed from Southampton for a fee of £15 million giving Jose Mourinho an additional option in the middle of the park.

According to the Daily Star, Tottenham Hotspur are looking to raise funds of around £70 million via player sales and are ready to bid adieu to as many as six players. Midfielder Moussa Sissoko does feature in the list with Mourinho prepared to let the Frenchman go for £18 million.

The 30 year old midfielder had a disappointing start to his Spurs career but has bounced back strongly and was a key cog for Mauricio Pochettino. Even Jose Mourinho has enjoyed having the Frenchman in the team but it looks like he is willing to let go of the central midfielder, especially, after the arrival of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. Everton must try signing the physical beast.

More from Prince Rupert's Tower

Tom Davies and Andre Gomes do not add the needed steel and physicality to the Royal Blue midfield. Moussa Sissoko can be the tank that supplies energy and muscle to the midfield and even though he is not the most skilled or technically adept player, his long-lasting stamina helps him to outrun his opponents even in the culminating stages of the game.

The 30 year old is known to break the lines and quickly make the transition from defence to attack, catching opponents napping at times and this is exactly what the Toffees need. The current crop of midfielders has been alleged to be extremely slow while launching an attack but with Sissoko, build up play can be quicker.

Moussa Sissoko will also bring a certain degree of aggression and dynamism to the midfield, again something Everton clearly lacked during the entire season. Now, at 30 he may not be the long term option but if you think Allan also is in the same age group. Paying close to £30 million for a 29 year old Allan with no Premier League experience is a greater risk than having a 30 year old Sissoko for £18 million with 7 years of English Top Flight experience.

The merits of Moussa Sissoko weigh higher than the risks that Everton will have to take. So, Marcel Brands must actually re-think about the midfield options and include Moussa Sissoko in the candidates’ list.
