One of the most highly-regarded wide attacking players mentioned as a possible option for Everton, is the Watford player Ismaila Sarr. Today he is being quoted saying he wants to play for Liverpool.

Sarr has been called the ‘second Sadio Mane’ and after a solid season with Watford, he is being touted as perhaps the most likely of their players to move on. Everton should probably be in the race to sign him.

Ironically, Sarr had perhaps his best single game last season against the club he now says he wants to join: Liverpool. He was outstanding in the Hornets 3-0 win over them back in February.

His compatriot Mane, has also been supposedly saying he wants his fellow Senegal forward to become his team mate at Anfield.

That game was the one that really put the 22-year-old Senegalese player on the map as regards other clubs in the Premier League.

He had his best campaign last season, what might be called his breakout campaign. It also put him right in the shop window.

Sarr seems to be the type of player that the Blues ideally need. He’s powerful, quick, carries the ball, takes on defenders, creates and scores goals. He netted five goals and made four assists during the 2019-20 campaign. Not a bad return in a very ordinary team.

It’s difficult to be sure whether Sarr will become a player as good as Mane. The potential seems to be there but as always you can never be certain if he can fulfill it.

Of course Mane wasn’t exactly pulling up trees at St Mary’s when he was playing for Southampton before Liverpool snapped him up. Like Sarr he had produced a couple of standout performances, one I seem to remember against Chelsea I think, before he moved to Anfield.

As for any possible move for Sarr, with the Hornets now relegated, despite what he says, it’s hard to see him staying to play in the Championship and it seems possible they will have to cash in on him given the financial realities of relegation.

Watford are being quoted as saying they want at least £40 million for the player. In a normal transfer window that would appear reasonable.

But it does seem a lot in this financial climate and I would be surprised if Everton were prepared to pay that much for any one single player in this transfer window, especially if the Toffees have already laid out a similar sum for someone like Gabriel Magalhaes.

If that’s the case then I don’t see the Blues getting Sarr and he will probably move to a club in the top four with the resources to still pay that sort of money.
