Everton is also in the race to sign free agent Jeff Hendrick but Newcastle United are the favourites.

The dream Saudi takeover is off the books for Newcastle United for now which means they won’t have endless pockets to spend on players like Ciro Immobile or Philippe Coutinho. The Toons have resorted back to cheap and affordable players. Free agent Jeff Hendrick is certainly on the list but faces competition from a host of Premier League clubs like Everton, Southampton and West Brom.

Newcastle United is believed to lead the race for central midfielder Jeff Hendrick. The free agent decided not to renew his contract with Burnley and seeks greener pastures. The 28 year old has a long list of admirers in England as well as overseas. Newcastle being the frontrunners, Everton, the Saints are the clubs chasing him in the Top Flight whereas Serie A outfits AC Milan and Atalanta also keep an eye of the situation.

According to 90min, Newcastle United is confident of signing the Northern Ireland international. Steve Bruce has put in a lot of hard work to offer a package to Jeff Hendrick which can’t be easily turned down. However, the Toons need to be careful as Everton and Southampton are waiting in the wings to pounce on a deal should everything go south with Newcastle.

I think it is just another rumour. The Toffees are now sick and tired of listening that the club is interested in players, they want to see some signings. However, Jeff Hendrick isn’t a bad option, especially on a free transfer. His style of play is definitely not the eye-catching but he does a reasonable job.

Everton have lacked in squad depth and Hendrick can add an extra outlet. However, he may not be willing to accept a squad role when Steve Bruce is open to playing him week in week out. There’s not much substance to this rumour and I will be happy if Everton take the high road and skip on Hendrick all-together. Instead, there are targets like Baptiste Santamaria who are available for cheap.

Now it is a high time that Everton get deals over the line. Gabriel Magalhaes seems to be a never ending saga and Allan deal looks close but we have been hearing it for weeks now. I do believe come by end of the week, we will surely see one signing in the new Hummel kit.
